The Story Behind “Over the Edge”
Hiking to the summit of Scotchman Peak, the highest peak in Bonner County, Idaho, remains one of the best days of my life. With roughly 1,000 feet of elevation gain per mile and a final stretch of steep, loose shale, reaching the top is no small accomplishment. But the breathtaking views and the chance to spend time among the mountain goats made every step worthwhile.
I captured this young mountain goat enjoying a lick from a rock near the summit. Standing there, I couldn't help but think about how much effort it took me to reach the top—and how extraordinary it must be for these goats to experience those views every day.
