Welcome to The West I Observe

Note from the Artist:  Field Notes is where I share the stories behind Buffalo Dreams Studio—the places I wander, the landscapes and wildlife that inspire me, the adventures that lead to a photograph, and the journey of building a dream that's taken years to pursue.

Field Note No. 1:

When most people picture the American West, they imagine ranches stretching toward the horizon, hardworking cowboys driving cattle, horses beneath endless skies, cactus, sagebrush, and dusty roads.

That West exists. It has history, grit and it deserves to be remembered.

But it isn’t the only West.

The West I photograph is also found in the quieter moments.

It is buffalo on the plains. Snowcapped mountains. Soaring eagles. Quiet lakes. Mountain goats. Hummingbirds just passing through. Wildflowers painting the hillsides. Forests, rushing rivers, calm creeks, the dramatic clouds of Montana and mist of Idaho.

It is the details that for many are so easy to miss.

The stillness.

The smallest creature.

The moments you only see when you slow down and pay attention.

That is the West I observe.

These photographs are my dreams—an act of believing in myself, trusting my point of view, and finally sharing it with you. Some dreams take years...

Cheers,

Becca
